AICE –Chemistry AS.
Syllabus
2020-2021 School Year
Instructor: Mrs. Ingrid Alida Echeverria
iecheverriasanchez@keysgatecharter.org
Cambridge International Chemistry AS builds on the skills previously
acquired. The syllabus includes the main theoretical concepts, which are
fundamental to the subject, a section on some current applications of
experimental chemistry, and a strong emphasis on advanced practical skills.
Practical skills are assessed in a timetabled practical examination. The examination will take place in 2021
The emphasis throughout is on the understanding of concepts and the
application of Chemistry AS ideas in novel contexts as well as on the
acquisition of knowledge. The course encourages creative thinking,
communicative, research, and problem-solving skills, which are transferable to
any future career path. Cambridge International Chemistry AS is ideal for
learners who want to study medicine, biology, environmental science, or a wide
variety of related subjects at university or to follow a career in science.
-
Only students
who are serious about obtaining college credit and/or an AICE diploma should be
registered for this course.
-
This course is
intended for future science majors or those interested in pursuing a career in
science.
-
The course
material is RIGOROUS.
-
Attendance is
essential in order to successfully complete course material. Some experiments
simply cannot be repeated if a student is not in attendance on the day of the lab.
At the
end of this course, there will be an examination that must be well scored
in order to earn college credit in Science. A passing score of “E” is required
to receive college credit.
Students
enrolled in AICE Chemistry AS, must take three examinations (Paper 1, Paper 2,
Paper 3 Practice ) to have their examination results graded.
Furthermore,
if you are not present for the examinations, at the end of the year you will owe the school
$85 for each missed test, the “weighting” of the course will be dropped and the diploma will be withheld until payment is received.
Those interested in pursuing science are encouraged to take “A Level”
subjects to get further college credit.

Ask !!!!
ü
Show clear, complete
work for all problems in notes and on homework, quizzes, and tests. Circle or
box your answer so that it may easier be found. (If it is not obvious what your
answer is, it can easily be counted wrong.)

are designed to reinforce significant ideas from the text.
